A further step towards making Malta the blockchain island has been made with the announcement that all education certificates will be stored on blockchain. The decision has been taken at the end of a two-year pilot project which started in September 2017. Named as the Blockcerts project, the initiative has so far allowed students from MCAST, ITS, and other educational institutions to have their certificates issued on blockchain. Soon this will also be possible for all education certificates, including secondary school ones issued by public, private and church schools. Malta is the first country in the world to put students’ certificates on blockchain.
In July of last year, the Maltese government passed a group of bills that provided legal certainty for crypto- and blockchain-related businesses.
