The event Practical accounting for beginners includes 3 sessions that can be attended either separately or together.

Session 2 | March 30: Practical accounting for beginners: Preparation of Financial Statements;

Session 3 | April 8: Practical accounting for beginners: Analysis of Financial Statements.

Training topics:

The session will focus on the double entry system – the origin of the double entry, the accounting equation, the double entry system, and a look at the trial balance. We will also go through a number of practical examples and work them out during the session.    

 

Session 2

Training topics:

The session will focus on preparation of the financial statements. We will be discussing the users of the financial statements, a background to the regulatory system of accounting, national legislation, accounting concepts and assumptions, brief overview of the accounting standards, introduction to the IFRS Foundation and the IASB. We will also look into the format of the statement of comprehensive income, the statement of financial position, statement of changed in equity and the statement of cash flows. We will finish off with a fully detailed example of preparing a trial balance.    

 

Session 3

Training topics:

During this session we will go through the contents of the financial statements by delving into the directors’ report, statement of directors’ responsibilities, auditors’ report and the audit process. We will also be looking at the exemptions when it comes to preparing financial statements. We shall also discuss some accounting ratios which are frequently used.   

 

This course does not include CPE hours as defined by the Accountancy Board Accreditation rules.

Leanne Barry Leanne is a senior executive forming part of the business process solutions team providing an array of accounting, VAT and corporate taxation services to a portfolio of international and local clients. She started her career with Grant Thornton at 17 years of age in 2017 as a junior associate. During these 4 years she has worked within the internal accounts department and then transferred to the business process solutions department to gain different experience and expertise. Since then she has worked with both local and international clients assisting them on accounting, VAT and tax obligations. When joining Grant Thornton, Leanne pursued her studies in ACCA and has become a qualified accountant by obtaining her qualification in April 2020. She is currently reading for an Advanced Diploma in International Taxation offered by the Chartered Institute of Taxation. Leanne is a member of the Malta Institute of Accountants.
