Grant Thornton present at the Opportunities in Superyachts Conference

Grant Thornton recently attended the ‘Opportunities in Superyachts Conference’ organised in Valletta in February.

The conference brought together professional and major players in the yachting industry to discuss key issues concerning the superyacht industry, including: industry trends, insurance, taxation, finance, regulation, safety and security. Grant Thornton was represented at the event by Paul Caruana Turner, Grant Thornton Lead associate for legal, tax and regulatory services.

“With a long and illustrious history in shipping, Malta is now focusing on the aircraft and superyacht sectors” commented Dr Wayne Pisani, Grant Thornton partner for legal, tax and regulatory. “We understand the challenges facing owners, operators, and service providers and how they are being dealt with. Grant Thornton also knows which are the best opportunities presented by this industry, and how best to capitalise on them. We provide attractive propositions to yachts owners in respect of ownership structuring, VAT mitigation and registration. We continually review and shape our services to meet the ever changing requirements and regulations of the maritime sector and jurisdiction. We do this to ensure that the ownership structures we propose and manage are not only compliant with current regulations but also meet our clients’ specific requirements.”

The annual conference is fast becoming a major international event with active participation and representation from the UK, Germany, Canada, US, Malta, Switzerland, France, Italy, Monaco, Spain, Cyprus, Italy, Monaco, Sweden and the Netherlands. It provides delegates with an opportunity to meet the key industry figures in an informal environment under one roof. This year’s edition also included specialized sessions on explorer yachts, open plan design yachts, gadgets and links between private aviation and superyachts.
