Positioned as a national initiative, the MBW is set to redefine how businesses interact with public authorities by reducing bureaucracy, streamlining due diligence processes, and enhancing the overall ease of doing business in Malta.
At its core, the MBW introduces a “once-only” approach to data sharing, enabling businesses to upload verified information once and securely reuse it across multiple touchpoints. This represents a fundamental shift away from fragmented, repetitive compliance processes towards a more integrated, efficient digital ecosystem, aligned with Malta’s broader ambitions in digital public service delivery.
At Grant Thornton Malta, we are proud to have played a central role in bringing the MBW to life. Working in close collaboration with the Malta Business Registry and technology partner Binderr, our Digital Transformation team supported the initiative from early-stage concept through to delivery, operating within a complex and evolving regulatory and technological landscape.
Our contribution was anchored in a multidisciplinary approach that combined advisory, programme execution, and technical insight. This included:
- Programme and project management, ensuring the coordination of multiple stakeholders across the public and private sectors, while maintaining alignment with strategic objectives and delivery timelines
- Process design and optimisation, mapping the desired user flows to support a more seamless, digital-first experience for businesses and authorities
- Regulatory interpretation and consultation, helping translate upcoming regulations into scalable digital solutions
- Stakeholder engagement and alignment, facilitating collaboration between government entities, technology providers, and end users to ensure a solution that meets real operational needs
- Implementation support and delivery oversight, guiding the transition from concept to a fully operational platform
Through this integrated approach, Grant Thornton Malta helped bridge the gap between policy ambition and practical execution, demonstrating our capability to deliver complex, large-scale transformation programmes that combine regulatory understanding with digital innovation.
The impact of the MBW is already beginning to take shape. By enabling the structured capture and reuse of verified business data, the platform reduces duplication in both business-to-government and business-to-business interactions, leading to faster processing times and improved efficiency across the board.
For businesses, this translates into reduced administrative burden, greater control over how and with whom their data is shared, and a more seamless experience when meeting compliance requirements. For public authorities, it introduces greater consistency, improved data quality, and more streamlined operations. Collectively, these improvements place Malta in a strong position as a forward-looking jurisdiction within the European digital landscape.
For Grant Thornton Malta, this initiative reflects our broader commitment to supporting clients and institutions through meaningful transformation.
