The government of Malta has made available several incentive programmes, aimed at supporting Maltese SMEs and start-ups. These support schemes are targeted at different stages of a company’s lifecycle and cover from the start-up to the consolidation and expansion phases. Such incentives are usually promoted and managed by Malta Enterprise, while Trade Malta focuses on supporting businesses to penetrate foreign markets.
Business Start: offers a seed funding for start-ups. The measure is intended to support Small Start-up Undertakings that have a viable business concept and are in the early stage of their development. Initiatives that are deemed to be economically viable shall be supported through a grant of up to €25,000.
Business development and continuity: this scheme is intended to facilitate projects that are expected to contribute to the regional development of Malta and to support existing undertakings sustain operations during restructuring. The program may support various activities such as the initial development phase on ventures establishing an operational base in Malta, expansion projects, consolidation and reorganisation of operations.
Start-Up Finance 2017 - 2020: this measure aims to finance innovative undertakings in their early stages of development by supporting Small Start-up Undertakings that demonstrate a viable business concept in the setting-up and initial growth phases.
The support is linked to private equity, crowdfunding and the procurement of machinery and equipment.
Trade Malta Incentive schemes: Trade Malta offers many services including, but not limited to, participation in trade missions, support in exhibiting in trade fairs worldwide, training, and market research.
