Paul pursued his studies at the University of Malta obtaining a Bachelor with Honours of Law, graduating following the submission of his thesis focused on employment law having completed study units relating to law of obligations, employment law, trust law, the regulation of banking, EU financial services law, advanced company law matters, and the local legal framework of financial services, among others.
He was recently awarded a certificate from the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners after successfully sitting for an examination relating to the Virtual Financial Assets Act.
He has also successfully obtained a Foundation Certificate in Trusts Law and Management.
He is currently in his final year reading for Master of Arts in Financial Services at the University of Malta which provides an in-depth coverage of key areas of financial services.
Paul has been working in the financial services field for a number of years, having previously worked in the Commercial Law department at a boutique law firm, in the Trusts Department of a top tier law firm and a Corporate Services Provider before joining Grant Thornton in 2016.
He presently forms part of the legal team here at Grant Thornton where we service a varied portfolio of Maltese and overseas clients.
Paul focuses predominantly on the corporate services, trusts, compliance, capital markets, virtual financial assets framework, regulatory and licensing fields. He provides legal support for corporate structuring, in the drafting of public offering documentation, in engagements for legal and regulatory due diligence on regulated entities, advising on regulatory compliance, drafting of license applications in the financial services and gaming sector, providing support of a legal and regulatory nature to licensed companies, and works alongside the tax and advisory teams providing legal input for projects and business plans.
