Identifying the true value of a business, requires considerable experience and measured, independent judgement. Valuation is an essential tool employed by accountants and finance professionals for financial reporting, capital budgeting or investment appraisals purposes. During this course we will go through the basic principles of valuations, particularly the discounted cash flow technique and the market-based approaches.

Esmeralda Schembri Esmeralda is a senior executive at Grant Thornton engaged in the Transactions Advisory Services, a department specializing in corporate finance. She is ACCA certified and also completed the Advanced Valuation Certificate Course from New York University, Leonard N.Stern School of Business taught by Professor Aswath Damodaran, obtaining a High Honours. Esmeralda specializes in valuations, and has over her five year career with Grant Thornton been involved in a number of valuations of tangible and intangible assets for companies operating in the following industries: tourism, real estate, banking and food and beverage. Furthermore, she was also involved in financial and economic consultancy services for various local and foreign clients, and was also seconded to a leading bank in Malta for two and a half years, where she occupied the position of a financial analyst within the corporate team. Her duties included preparation of financial analysis of corporate customers, analysing new projects and assisting relationship mangers in assessing the feasibility and valuations of highly leveraged projects. Esmeralda is also an affiliate member of the Malta Institute of Accountants.
Raymond Cheong Raymond works within the Transaction Advisory Team of Grant Thornton Malta where he provides a variety of services including financial due diligence, business valuations, assistance with mergers and acquisitions, project finance and other corporate finance advisory services. He is a CFA Charterholder and a member of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountant (ACCA). He also holds a degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Mauritius. Raymond started his career as an external auditor at PwC and prior to joining Grant Thornton Malta, he worked within the Strategy and Transaction team at EY where he has supported several transactions over the years with experience in financial due diligence (buy side and sell side), valuation, financial modelling, market study and feasibility study.
