Information should be provided to managers at all levels in order to assist them with planning and controlling the activities for which they are responsible. Information needs to be gathered from all relevant sources (internal and external) in order to help managers make timely and effective decisions. This goes far beyond the preparation of the traditional monthly management accounts’.

A management information system (MIS) is a computer system, or group of systems, which collects and presents management information relating to a business to facilitate its control. Our business consultants can help you identify the critical information you need to run your business to its full potential.

Following a comprehensive analysis of the nature, size and diversity of your business, your business objectives, and management structures and styles, we can help you design your MIS using principles of responsibility accounting. The organisation, depending on its size, should be divided into series of responsibility centres — group, subsidiary, divisional, profit centre, and cost or revenue centre responsibility. A manager, with clearly defined responsibilities, should be in charge of each centre. The purpose of the MIS is then to provide each manager with information at an appropriate level of relevance and detail, so that he or she can carry out these responsibilities properly.

Only when your information requirements have been clearly defined do we bring information technology into the picture. In consultation with our in-house IT professionals, or your own IT providers, we explore and develop the systems needed to produce the desired information, working always within your budget and resource constraints.

We believe that results are what count and not the complexity (or price) of your IT set-up. We have often succeeded in developing effective MIS solutions by formulating simple data collection procedures, redesigning management reports and ‘fine-tuning' existing systems at minimum expense to our clients.
